6 Steps To Writing Better Copy
For Ecommerce Emails
So you want to write better Ecom Email copy.
I’ve got you with 6 quick tips that you can implement right now to make that happen.

Smash your limiting beliefs
I need to make it very clear to you that writing email copy for Ecom brands is the job I would recommend to a complete beginner in the ‘make money online’ space.
Creating great emails as a whole can be difficult. There’s a lot to learn.
But writing them?
That’s so simple.
You’re writing to warm traffic that already knows, likes, and trusts the brand in most cases.
You could write almost anything and you’ll make sales.
This is the mindset you need, you can’t write from a place of scarcity and fear.
Identify the type of copy you need to write
There are 2 main types of email copy you’ll use for Ecom Emails.
Direct Response & Branded.
Direct Response is writing to elicit a definitive response from the reader. Either yes or no. They either buy now, or they will unsubscribe.
That’s taking it to the extreme, but that’s what it is.
Branded copy is more soft. It’s less ‘in your face’ salesy type writing, and more friendly.
These exist as 2 separate ends of the spectrum.
You’ll use a blend of both at different times.
How do you know where you are on the spectrum?
If your product solves an acute pain point, it’ll be further towards the DR style. Most health products fall on this side of things.
If your product doesn’t solve an acute pain point you’ll be writing branded copy. Examples: Clothing, Jewellery etc.
Subscribe to your competitors
Don’t make things hard on yourself. Subscribe to competitors lists’ and steal the angles/ideas that they’re using in their campaigns.
This is great for inspiration and finding winning campaign angles.
Email Angle > Email Copy
The success of your email campaign for Ecom depends more on the angle/idea behind the campaign more so than the actual copy. Hence why I said to steal angles in tip 3.
You want to write each email with only 1 idea.
Example: Let’s say you’re selling a Nootropic that helps 'reduce brain fog’.
Some angle ideas:
Helping corporate bros outperform competition
Help entrepreneurs get an extra 4 productive hours each day
Helping new mothers’ clear brain fog to get back to the work force
You can come up with better, but that took 30 seconds off the top of my head.
Spend 80% of time on SL, PT, & Headline
This is for all copy, but especially Ecom emails.
You know for a fact that everyone is reading the subject line & preview text. You need to nail this to ‘sell’ them on opening the email.
If you got that far, your headline also needs to ‘sell’ them on reading the rest of the email.
You do that be making the angle/idea/offer of your email very clear in the headline.

Market Research
You’ve heard this a million times before so I won’t yap too much.
If you've done enough research, the copy basically writes itself. All you need to do then is write in the general tone of the brand.
What I do for market research is get my clients to fill out a very extensive form when I onboard them.
I then go to social media comments (my clients’ and their competitors’), reviews of their products, reviews of their competitors products, reddit, and Quora.
Bonus Tip: Don’t just sling discounts to the list. 1-2 discount roll outs per month is good.
Apart from that, it’s your job to create great angles to get results without spamming discounts.
