Quick & Easy Way To Clean Your Email List

(Actionable tip that will take <5 mins. Implement as you read this email)

Quickly to start, why is it important to have a clean list?

  1. Filter out bots & burner emails

  2. Filter out those who mark you as spam

  3. Filter out customers who are ignoring your emails

Why’s that important?

  • Improved deliverability

  • Improved email domain health

  • Lowers the cost of your ESP (less active profiles)

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Create Unengaged Segment

To do this in Klaviyo (it’s similar in other ESP’s as well), you go to ‘Lists & Segments’

Create a new SEGMENT (not a list) with these conditions:

  • Hasn’t opened an email within the last 90 days

  • Hasn’t clicked an email within the last 90 days

  • Hasn’t placed an order in the last 120 days

  • Profile was created at least 90 days ago

  • Has received at least 5-10 emails in the last 90 days

Note: Make sure you select ‘AND’ for these conditions. Do not select ‘OR’.

Here’s how it should look:

  1. Export the segment to CSV

In Klaviyo, select ‘Manage Segment’ in the top right.

Then export the segment to CSV.

  1. Go to the ‘Profiles’ Tab

  2. Select ‘View suppressed profiles’

  3. Import the CSV that you just exported.

That’s it! They’re now suppressed.

You still have their email details, they just won’t receive any of your emails now.

If you wanted to run a re-engagement campaign to that list, you still can.

You can make this entire process automatic now so you don’t need to do that ever again…

To do that, you simply take the unengaged segment that we just created and make it the trigger for a flow. This is called your ‘Sunset Flow’ and I’ve done a full video on that.

You can watch that here.

Hope that helps!

Appreciate you for reading!

Much love,

Lachie
